"Lady of Milkweed Manor" by Julie Klassen

Product Details

In the “Lady of Milkweed Manor” by Julie Klassen, Charlotte Lamb, a vicar’s daughter, finds herself in a home for unwed mothers, having been evicted from home by her father.  Charlotte refuses to identify the father of her child, who is Edmund.

Edmund is remarried and when his wife loses their baby in childbirth, Edmund asks Charlotte to relinquish the rights to the child they conceived, so he can replace his deceased child with the baby Charlotte recently gave birth to - before his wife recovers.

Then, when Charlotte’s doctor’s wife dies in childbirth, the doctor comes to Charlotte and asks her to be a wet nurse for his child.  Charlotte ends up caring deeply for the doctor and his child, while getting reports on the progress of her own child.

Later, Edmund loses his wife and wants Charlotte to marry him.  She does not love him, but if she marries him, she will be with her child every day.  What will she do?
